I refer to Prodigy’s core values as the “5-C’s.” Establishing core values is essential to help you stay on track with the bigger picture and remain true to yourself, whether in business or individually. You will love our gym if our “5-C’s” resonate with you!
The 5-C’s are Community, Communication, Character, Cleanliness, and Challenge.
Community
We want you to feel like a valued part of a bigger picture, an essential puzzle element, not just another member. Focusing inwardly and on the people around us during chaotic times is vital. Finding like-minded individuals brings peace of mind to any environment. We are here to support one another so we can all be the best versions of ourselves. Jiujitsu can be a dangerous sport. So, you have to trust the members while you are training. We don’t want to injure students intentionally, and we don’t want any students intentionally injuring each other. We want to build each other up on and off the mats. Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Communication
Communication is the key to learning. Learning jiujitsu is most effective in person on the mats, allowing students to receive feedback and support for their progress. You should feel comfortable asking questions to gain a better insight into the technique. Good communication will build trust and respect. Clear and respectful communication is also a lifelong tool that will benefit students off the mats. James 1:9: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.”
Character
We focus on developing mental and moral strengths to shape leaders by ensuring our instructors exhibit honesty, sincerity, and integrity, which requires discipline, consistency, and persistence. When our instructors behave in this character, students will also follow and act this way. We also recognize everyone is on their journey and that progress looks different from one individual to the next. Comparison is the thief of joy, and we encourage all students to celebrate their achievements and their teammates. Luke 6:31: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
Cleanliness
Jiujitsu is a contact sport that gets students sweaty. Lack of cleanliness in contact sports can lead to staph, ringworm, and other infections.
We clean and disinfect the mats and kickboxing equipment several times a day.
Our most significant rule regarding cleanliness is that only clean, bare feet are allowed on the mats, and shoes are always on anywhere else in the building. Nails and trim should be clean, and uniforms should be clean. We pride ourselves on keeping the mats clean. 1 Corinthians 14:40: “But all things should be done decently and in order.”
Challenge
Our goal is to push you beyond your comfort zone, compete against yourself, and evolve into your best version. You can’t grow and develop without challenging yourself. Failure is where you learn. We encourage students to put themselves in positions where they struggle the most. While we don’t mandate competition tournaments, that is another option to test yourself and see how to improve your performance. If any student wants to compete, we will push you to be ready and support you in the competition. Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
